Little Millet Coconut Rice is a firm favourite in my house. It is something which can be prepared quickly and easily in the morning for lunch. Everybody, especially kids, love this recipe!
About Little Millet
Little Millet is high in healthy fats in addition to all the general millet characteristics (gluten-free, low glycemic index, high fibre, etc). It also has the smallest grains, so cooks faster than the other millets.
Little Millet is also called Same (in Kannada), Samai (in Tamil), Samalu (in Telugu) and Kutki (in Hindi)
- 1 cup Little Millet Rice
- 1 cup Freshly Grated Coconut
- 1 to 2 nos Chopped Onions
- 1 to 2 nos Green Chillis Add more if you want more spice
- 5 to 6 nos Curry Leaves
- 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
- 2 tbsp Oil/Ghee
- 1 tsp Salt to taste

- Heat oil/ghee in a pan/wok and add Mustard seeds and Curry leaves. When Mustard seeds have popped, add Green Chillies and chopped Onions.
- Fry until the onion becomes transparent. Add grated Coconut and mix well. Add Salt to taste.
- Mix the Kodo Millet rices to this and mix it thoroughly and evenly. Once the rice is heated, remove from flame and the dish is ready to be served. Serve it with some coconut chutney.
